Exemplars: Excellent Model Part 1:Many states have already started their study of the Common Core Standards and have been redesigning their curriculums. Ohio is following close behind. We can utilize the work that has already been completed to assist us in our study. We will begin session 2 by reviewing Common Core exemplars from New York.
These directions will take you briefly through the NY site. This site is an excellent resource for future reference. After clicking on the "Engage NY" link below, click on Common Core found at the top of the page. In the "For Teachers" section, click on Curriculum Exemplars. Here you will find 3 Exemplar lessons. Download the lesson that is appropriate for your grade level.
After downloading the exemplar lesson, read through entire lesson. As you follow the day by day lesson plans, be observant of the focus on Reading Closely.
After closely reading the exemplar lesson, divide into groups of 3-4 to discuss how the lesson plan elements, Text under Discussion and Directions for Teachers Guiding Questions for Students, increase the rigor in our instruction and student understanding.Engage NY After your discussion, return to this page to continue Session 2. We will be using a discussion board as part of this collaborative process. Go to the discussion board to respond to our first discussion prompt.
